The Old Lodge Meeting
On Wednesday 24th November 2021, the current Brethren of Horus Lodge No. 3155 met in due and ancient form at Freemasons Hall, to conduct the formal business of the Lodge and progress the planned takeover.
After Opening and taking the Minutes, respects to departed merit were paid to W Bro Gordon Wilson, PDepGSupWks, and former Secretary of the Lodge. W Bro David Wilson was declared as Worshipful Master, and his Officers were appointed and invested.
How Horus Lodge No. 3155 became the Official MCBS Lodge
So, how did it all begin? It was like creating a door that was already open – many Freemasons enjoy a drink together, but when Freemasonry was suspended and the country was put into lockdown, that act of fraternal good cheer could no longer happen in person.
As with many things in life, we had no idea where it would end up when this all began. A WhatsApp group was created by Bro Adam Strange where we talked all things Masonic, and it just grew from there. It wasn’t long before a common love of good beer emerged as a recurring theme, and a foundation stone was laid.

Horus Lodge Needs YOU! A Call for Volunteers
A Call for Officers
Would you like an opportunity to get involved in Horus Lodge by taking an Office? We are actively seeking volunteers from amongst our members to take on the following Offices:
- Inner Guard
- Membership Officer
- Royal Arch Representative
- Organist
- Tyler
- Stewards
- Inner Guard
Traditionally the first position a Mason holds in a progressive Lodge, some might look down on this Office as being the most junior floor Office in the room. We don’t.

Meet the Mason - Overseas Joiners #1: Sergio Jimenez (Bolivia)
We have had a fair number of inquiries and Forms from Brethren in overseas Jurisdictions (from as close as within the UK, to as far away as the Americas), so in each edition of the Herald, we hope to put the spotlight on a joiner from overseas – a chance to learn a little about them, Freemasonry in their country, and what attracted them to join this Lodge.
The first in this series takes us to Bolivia and Sergio Jimenez whose mother Lodge is Mariscal De Zepita Lodge No. 20 and who is currently Junior Warden in Horizonte de Luz Lodge No. 85. We asked him to tell us a little about Freemasonry in Bolivia, about himself, and what made him want to join Horus 3155 in England. This is the story in his own words:
Meet the Officers: Senior Warden
We continue in our series introducing you to the Committee who will be taking active Offices in the Lodge, giving you a chance to learn a bit about them as a person and as Freemason, and we come to the soon to be Senior Warden – Bro Adam Mills
| Name: | Adam Mills |
|---|---|
| Time in Freemasonry: | 4 years |
| Mother Lodge: | Ostrea Lodge, 8209 (Essex) |
| Rank(s): | Master Mason |
Some of you will know Adam as a founding member of the Masonic Craft Beer Society, and regular on the Friday Happy Hour Zoom sessions.
Meet the Officers: Our First Worshipful Master
Now, we all know that there is a Committee of human beings (well, mostly – you know Secretaries…) behind everything that’s happening, but who actually are they? In each edition of the Horus Herald we will be introducing you to one of the Committee who will be taking active Office in the Lodge, giving you a chance to learn a bit about them as a person and as Freemason.
In this edition we will begin with the Chairman and first Worshipful Master of the newly reinvigorated Horus Lodge No. 3155.

Secretary's Update - Jan 2022
Brethren,
I hope this finds you all well. After months of preparation, things are starting to get in to scarily real territory! Hopefully by the time you read this, you will have received an email update about Clearance Certificates – so this seems like an apt time to update you all on the timeline.
On Wednesday 24th November the six Committee members who will be doing the formal ‘takeover’ of Horus Lodge No 3155 were read out at Freemasons Hall, and Notices of Motion were made to amend the Bylaws and offer the six members of ‘old’ Horus Honorary Membership to thank them for their work steering the Lodge to this point.
Secretary's Update - Oct/Nov 2021
Brethren, thank you for your patience thus far. A lot has been happening behind the scenes, and I apologise for not being able to keep you all updated individually on progress. At time of writing, I have received just shy of one hundred Form Ms (with a few more promised on the way) – most are from Masons in Lodges under UGLE, but others are from as far afield as Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Canada, the USA, Bolivia, Trinidad and Ghana!

MCBS Summer Social in review
We had been running fortnightly ‘happy hours’ on Zoom for over a year, and had held several online tasting events in partnership with different craft breweries across England, so felt that the time was ripe for something more – our first in-person social! The easy option would have been to hire out a pub or bar and ask people to come along, but we felt that the first meeting needed to be something special for our members. Something to celebrate the end of lockdown, and the first time we had the opportunity to share a drink without involving a computer!
